This book was written by Piedad Bonnett, a well known Colombian poetry, novelist, playwright and literacy critic, who was born in Amalfi, Antioquia in 1951. She wrote this shocking story as a way of catharsis because her son who was an artist, a great painter, comitted suicide on May 14, 2011, when he was doing a Masters in New York city.  In this moment he was 28 years old and he lived alone in his apartment, although his sisters lived near him.

 

Along the story, Piedad makes a summary of Daniel´s life, since he was a boy, she tells us some anecdotes, for example, when he was an adolescent, he had a lot of problems with acne, so, she took him to the dermatologist, who prescribed him some strong medication, that later could be the onset aggravation for a schizophrenic disease.  So, the family had to deal with this terrible mental illness all his life.

 

This guy suffered from different strong episodes of this mental problem and he had to take medication every single day. When Daniel, for different reasons, abandoned the treatment, he had serious troubless and finished into the hospital.

 

Finally, Piedad in her book, tells us all the events in the last years: his son´s life at the university, life inside the family and the stressful moments when the youngster entered in the crisis, and the most dramatict scene when they travel to New York to collect his belongins.
